Wisconsin bowhunter shoots state record archery buck
by Paul A. Smith of the Journal Sentinel - Jan. 7, 2013
A white-tailed deer shot Nov. 6 by bowhunter Dusty Gerrits of Waupun has established a Wisconsin record for a typical archery buck. The rack was measured Sunday by a panel of certified scorers at 189 3/8 inches. The deer was shot in Fond du Lac County. It has 12 points and two "stickers." The gross score is 200 1/8 inches. After the rack dried for the required 60 days, a six-man scoring panel met Sunday in Appleton. The panel included three Boone and Crockett Club measurers (Mark Miller of Fond du Lac, Stan Zirbel of Green Leaf and Pat Gauthier of Suring), one Pope & Young measurer (Randy Marlatt of Crivitz) and two Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club measurers (Marty Krumrei of Green Bay and Patrick Gauthier Jr. of Suring). Gerrit's deer eclipses by 1 6/8 inches the buck taken in 2010 by Brian Inda near Wild Rose. Fond du Lac County now boasts the top Wisconsin archery bucks in typical and non-typical categories. The 30-point buck taken near Eldorado by Wayne Schumacher on Sept. 20, 2009 holds the non-typical record - it scored 243 6/8 inches.
Lenny and Tammy Schmuckal of Sheldon Wisconsin getting it right. There is nothing that draws people closer together than hunting. Think about it, who are the people that you are closest to? What long distance relatives and friends do you stay in contact with, even those you have not seen in years? You may forget Christmas, birthdys and the holidays, but come hunting season you always call. Babe Winkelman’s father told me in an interview that we did, "The best you people will ever meet and those that you stay friends with are those people that you have hunted with. Take your kids hunting and you will always be close." If you wish to send in your own game pictures, click here

Lenny and a Pied Buck he took in the Wisconsin 2011 Archery Hunt. He was seated in his tree stand watching turkey coming across an open field when they all stopped and turned to watch something come out of the woods. It was this buck.
